Former STRATOVARIUS Mainman Interviewed For 'Metal Evolution' Series
May 8, 2010REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE/ex-STRATOVARIUS guitarist Timo Tolkki will be interviewed by Dave Pattenden at the Ultimate World Guitar Exhibition festival in Bologna, Italy on My 15 for the forthcoming TV series "Metal Evolution". The series will air in the spring of 2011 in the U.S. on VH1 Classic and other networks in the world thereafter.
Commented Pattenden: "We will interview Timo about STRATOVARIUS specifically and the leading role the band has had in power metal since he joined back in 1985, the influences he has had and also about the guitar techniques associated with performing in an extremely technical form of music."
"Metal Evolution" is a new 16-part series on the history of heavy metal directed and produced by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, the filmmakers behind the award-winning documentaries "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", "Global Metal" and "Iron Maiden: Flight 666". The series features the much-debated metal history "family tree" originally shown in "Headbanger's Journey". From shock rock to thrash, from black metal to grunge, this 24-sub-genre genealogical chart — the first of its kind — reveals the vast complex progeny of heavy metal, and serves as the narrative backbone of the series. Using the chart as his road map, our host, metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn, will criss-cross the globe, to the northern tip of Norway, the jungles of Brazil, the grim beauty of Birmingham and the pock-marked streets of Detroit, visiting the bars, back alleys, and ballrooms, and even the basement shrines of superfans, to get to the very essence of metal.
Dunn recently told Spinner that "Metal Evolution" will focus on "how heavy metal and hard rock music has changed over the years." He added, "We are going to be talking to THE WHO, DEEP PURPLE and other British bands, too, because it did really come out of the U.K."
